The Global trafficking industry generates up to US $7 billion each year through this inhuman trade (UNIFEM)

7,00,000 persons primarily women are trafficked within and across International borders. (US Victims of Trafficking and Violence Protection Act, 2000).

Nearly 2 million children are abused and trafficked globally every year (Situation Report India, 1998)

Nearly 5% of the women and girls engaged in prostitution are from Nepal and Bangladesh (Situation Report India, 1998)

5000-7000 Nepali girls are trafficked to India every year mainly through the Indian states of U.P. and Bihar(Study by Maiti, Nepal)

Globally, human trafficking is on the rise. Today it is the third largest form of transnational illegal trade after arms and drugs.

44% of the women in prostitution fall prey to traffickers because of poverty. (Situation Report India, 1998)

40% of the women in prostitution are inducted when they were less than 18 years of age. (Situation Report India, 1998)
